Galvanized Piping
Galvanized pipes are steel pipes coated in zinc to prevent rust. They were commonly used in homes built before 1960 as an alternative to lead pipes. Over time, however, they corrode and rust internally. This can cause a variety of issues in the home including:
- Low water pressure
- Discoloration or sediment in water
- Uneven distribution of water
- Leaks
If you notice any of these signs, we recommend calling us to evaluate and determine if old galvanized piping may be the cause.
If you do have galvanized piping in your home, we recommend repiping with copper. Copper piping is durable and resistant to corrosion. Additionally, copper has natural antimicrobial properties and is non-permeable, reducing the risk of bacteria growth within pipes. All this makes copper a reliable and safe material for plumbing systems!
