As a homeowner, it is important to know where your main water shut off is for your home in case of an emergency. Once located, this shut off should be tested to confirm it is in good working condition. There are two types of valves used for this shut off:

• Gate Valves. Gate valves are an older type of valve used for main water shut offs. They mimic a steering wheel and close turning clockwise.
• Full Port Ball Valves. These are newer valves that are used for main water shutoffs and feature a 1/4 turn handle.
