Winterizing Your Hose Bibs
Cold Weather Reminder: Protect Your Hose Bibs from Winter Damage!
As the temperatures drop, it’s essential to winterize your outdoor hose bibs to avoid costly leaks and repairs come spring. Every year, we hear from homeowners who discover leaks in their hose bibs or the connected pipes—often due to freezing and cracking over the winter. The good news? Proper winterization can help prevent this!
Here’s how to protect your home:
- Disconnect all hoses from outdoor faucets.
- Turn off the water valve inside your home that supplies the hose bib.
- Open the outdoor hose bib to release any remaining water (you should see little to no water flow).
- Open the bleeder cap on the indoor valve to drain any trapped water (use a cup or towel to catch drips). Close the cap once drained and leave it as is until spring.
